Just Done My Timing Belt!

Recommended Posts

Guest chris1993GTI

Well decided I best get the timing belt changed today before it's resprayed.....What an absolute sod they are to do :) I have never come across an engine mount so difficult to remove for access! How long did they think them 3 bolts needed to be?? All I can say is, If you have done one you deserve a medal :P Anyway, While doing my belt I noticed a couple of things that did not seem correct. My car was registered in March 1993. However the belt used was the earlyer type up to 1992? (one tooth less than later type). Also everything on the car is stamped 1991? I have cross referenced all the chassis and engine numbers to the log book and all match. My car must of been sat in a compound for 2 years before it was registered. Anyone else found this on there cars??

Cheers,

Chris.

mine is exactly the same mate, its a late 1992 but when it came to get a timing belt change it needed the older belt instead of the newer one.

i just out it down to the engine maybe being replaced by the previous owner, or peugeot decided that it didnt deserve the newer engine :)

Probably because the later ones which you refer to are actually the plastic inlet manifold ones with the motronic ignition.... wouldn't worry about it anyway, as long as you got the job done :)

Yep, got it done. Suppose it was not that bad just awkward. Just seems strange how mine is so late registered but a 1991 car? Not too worried tho! Still love the old girl.

you don´t need to loosen the enginemount for changing the timingbelt. It´s possible without. But to be honest, I needed two attempts, to find that out. First attempt, was simmilar to yours.

so just keep practising
