No idea how its done as i bought it like this.

Have since stuck a standard rear plastic thing on as i think they look better.

its alright looking...but not as good as i'd thought..think i'll just leave it original...thanks mate.

IIRC the smooth ones can be found on some base models, would probably look better if it was smoothed into the rest of the boot if thats what you like

Personally I prefer the standard gti one

Plastic ridged doodah off, couple of pins to remove and a hole to be filled. Depends on the car but I really like it on mine, updates the rear a tad.

You can get a plastic thing from auto five. Or do what i did:

this is under the black panel, there are little metal lugs.

Then cut the lugs off, with the angle grinder, and a quick coat of paint to stop rust:

Then, badges on:

And no Tailgatelock, but the plastic. Nice one.

Do you have a close-up of the lockarea of the plastic trim? Did you glue the plastik or did you solder it together?

Looks real nice that Ashley.

I've had a tailgate done for mine, smooth as a baby's bum. The place that did it for me though, it took them six weeks after they'd done the work to decide what to charge for it. By that time i'd already given them £100. They want another £195 on top of that. All they did was add a new skin where the plastic panel is, and a skim with filler. I told them not to bother painting it for another £75, i'll do it myself at those prices. :)

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y275/foltan/CNV00024.jpg It was done before i bought it though, so not sure how it was done. I think a piece of metal was welded on and then smoothed in. Really top notch job though, it looks great IMO  Edited by Foltan
