Mongoose Exhausts

Recommended Posts

Guest sol20516

hi, i am new to this forum so this is my first post.

i am thinking of getting a mongoose exhaust system for my 205 and i was wondering if anybody has any experiance of them. would a full system give any kind of performance increase or would i be better off just getting a standard peugeot replacement?

i do like my exhausts fairly loud so would a mongoose system suffice?

cheers.

Firstly, is it a 1.6/1.9? If you do a search you'll find plenty of threads on this. If you're looking for performance an original Pug part is the way to go.

Woodbridge he, I used to live there many years ago.

A mongoose exhaust is pretty loud, I've only heard one from the outside so not too sure what it's like inside. As for performance increases on a standard engine, this is unlikely. More likely is a slight decrease but whether or not you'd notice this is arguable.

You can purchase a nice stainless system from many places, some are better quality than others so beware. Page 15 of this topic will give you an idea of the sort of thing you're looking for. The suppliers name can be found quite easily using the search button.

I currently have a Magnex twin box (mid box and back box) and it's still loud (deep bassy note as opposed to a slightly more raspy note of the group N mild steel single box I used to have fitted).

I can't really confirm this as yet, but since fitting the larger diameter pipe of the Magnex system, it feels as if the mid range has suffered slightly? I need a few more miles driving yet and then swap back to the group N to compare (I can't afford the rolling road just yet).

You can deffo get some subtle stainless systems though that sound pretty good without being ott.

Lastly, if you go standard, beware pattern parts as these can often decrease power and rot more quickly. It's false economy really if you are going to stick with it, better off getting oe.

Thankyou for your reply it has been helpful. In future i shall search the forum first before putting up a post so you don't have to keep answering the same old questions.

I think the best option is to get an OE

The mongoose has rasied questions before - but I currently have one on my car, its a bit loud at times but can sound nice (or at least I think so!).

A lot quiter with magnex manifold apprently... (I should be trying this out for myself soon!).

If in doubt search ;)

I have a Mongoose on my CTI too. I have a love hate relationship with it: I love the fact that it was on the car when I bought it and that it is stainless steel. I hate the fact that I can't have a conversation with passengers UNLESS I SHOUT ALL THE TIME. I agree 100% with Wurzel here: Forget about performance increase with this exhaust - the only people who reckon that a Mongoose will increase the performance of a 205 are, um... Mongoose themselves ;-) Having driven other 1.6 cars with the correct exhausts I'd guess that you wouldn't really notice any decrease in performance with the Mongoose exhaust on a public road though. One day I am sure that I will become so tired of the thing that I will remove it and fit the proper thing back on the car!

yeah, i suppose if i got a loud exhaust it would just get tiresome after a while. My mate has got a powerflow exhaust on his 205 and its great when your cruising around town and blasting people with great walls of sound, but on the dual carraige way it does your head in. When you go to bed that night you can still hear the exhaust in your head rumbling away
