Zed 0 Posted May 13, 2006 (edited) Into the 2nd month of the conversion at the moment and things are nearing completion. Engine is sat happy on an extended bottom mount complemented by baker top and bottom bushes. All the electrics are sorted and the engine runs. Now just to put the bumper back on, plumb all the coolant system back in and move some things as the bonnet wont fit on properly...which strikes me as a little odd. When i have looked at pics of other peoples engine bays their oil filler still sits in its original position, where as mine is too high and the bonnet will not close where it is, so its having to be moved lower down. Id very much like peoples opinions on the conversion from what they can see of it in the pictures, tilt of the engine and radiator mounting etc... as im getting very nervous now the conversion is nearing completion that something may have been overlooked. pics.... http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/zed.../Picture030.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/zed.../Picture028.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/zed.../Picture027.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/zed.../Picture026.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/zed.../Picture025.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/zed.../Picture024.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/zed.../Picture023.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/zed.../Picture022.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/zed.../Picture021.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/zed.../Picture020.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/zed.../Picture019.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/zed.../Picture018.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/zed.../Picture017.jpg edit due to image size & quantity Edited May 13, 2006 by pugtorque
Banjo 1 Posted May 13, 2006 (edited) Bodge city, your ment to reangle the exhaust manifold or buy a wedge for it NOT tilt the engine, your driveshafts will wear the diff seals out faster and your oil surge will be even worse, this is also the reason the bonnet will not go on, change the bottom mount for a standard one and sort the exhaust, cut the fan housing down and it all fits in lovely, looks quite a mess in there at the mo.. Zed 0 Posted May 13, 2006 (edited) yep, nothings been cleaned up atm. all plumbing still to do and brackets have to be made up for a lot of things, i.e fuel filter. The majority of electrics have all been done though and tidied up. all the fan cowling has been ground back already, the fan pretty much sits on top of the radiatior with about 2mm clearence. I looked at pics of tilted and none tilted engine bays and the diffrence was hardly a thing, so decided to do the easier thing and make an extended bottom mount. I will not be doing track days in this. I appreciate the feedback banjo....I will be un tilting it in the near future, but for now its having to be tilted. Banjo 1 Posted May 13, 2006 (edited) Your gona get beasted for those picys soon. Why move the fuel filter? Also i'd say spending 60 quid on sorting the exhaust will save you a lot of grief. Zed 0 Posted May 13, 2006 The fuel filter isnt getting moved as such....its just a bit crowded at that side of the engine bay so im going to make up a new mount next to the master cylinder for it (not over the ex manifold) . A lot of things in the engine bay will have new brackets made up to make things look nicer in the bay and maximise space. Current plans for the 205 are: finnish conversion and get all bugs ironed out over a couple of months whilst saving money.. Carbs, mocal cooler, inlet cam, 421 manifold will then follow along with untilting the engine.
DaveK 0 Posted May 13, 2006 personally id untilt the engine before going any further with mods, but then again afew people seem to have tilted engines and dont really have any problems
Zed 0 Posted May 13, 2006 yea, a lot of people have a lot against tilting the engine, which i can appreciate....but why do we have a guide on the front page that includes the bottom mount extension in it?. there is also a thread i read very recently with a lot of people arguing about it, and there also are a lot of people that belive there is absolutely no problem with extending the bottom mount so long as your not tracking it!. It will always be in the back of my mind when approaching long corners at speed until ive untilted it...I will never risk cooking my engine and will drive accordingly with the tilted engine, too much blood sweat and tears have gone into the little rat so far... Alastairh 47 Posted May 13, 2006 Its not exactly expensive to do the conversion properly though is it. What is it 60ish quid for one of matts wedge plates? Buy a plate or sort the manifold, and do it properly, and then you'll be able to close your bonnet. Alastair

Wes 86 1 Cars Posted May 16, 2006 where do you get the wedge plate from? as i need to untilt mine, is that the easyiest way?
credowan 15 1 Cars Posted May 16, 2006 wedge plate is from QEP the forum sponser this stops the need to reangle the exhaust manifold there might still be need to reangle the downpipe Gary
hexhamstu 9 Posted May 19, 2006 will an exhaust place be able to sort the downpipe for me/him/anyone or is it a weld yourself job?
