Can Somebody Please Tell Me Where This Water Pipe Goes!

Recommended Posts

yorkdave

put my mi into the 205 yesterday and i need to know where one of the water pipes should go. on the gearbox side of the cylinder head there is the thermostat housing and there is a solid water pipe which shoots off the back of it. where does this go to? the only thing i can think of is, i have seen some mi's with a solid water pipe running along the back of the cam cover, mine doesn't have one. do i need this? does it then go down to the water union block beside the lower rear engine mount? some one must know, help me out if you can.

Would it not be the same as the 8v and go to the heater matrix ?

hi mate yeah that sounds about right, i remember having to repair a leak on my hose and it does go to a union at the back lower part of the block from that metal pipe (fixes to the cam cover if its the right one im thinking of ) , sure someone said its only to have the heaters warm up quicker :P ???

just been to peugeot and been through their computer system and it doesn't show where that pipe goes after it comes out of the thermostat housing! it also doesn't show the metal pipe running along the cam cover! Doh! would i be safe just blocking it off for now, just want to get the engine running today, won't be taking it any where untill its right!

It goes to the heater matrix, if you haven’t changed the dist block on the back of the block by the engine mount for an 8v one you will need to do that also, and the pipe that comes out the side of the thermo housing needs blocking up to.

Ps don't bother with the throttle body coolant or even the oil heat exchanger, more pipes to go wrong, take the pinky pipe straight to the thermostat where the purple pipe comes out.

You can put the heater onto that one and block off the rear-most outlet (purple in the diagram) instead. It doesn't really matter either way.

on my MI16.....

the rubber house coming out the rear of the thermostat is pre-formed to make a 90 degree bend round the corner of the cam cover, where it joins to a metal pipe running along the back of the cam cover just above the exhaust manifold.

Mine is split and apparently unavailable from peugeot. (anyone know of another source?)

Regular flexible rubber hosing can't be used because it kinks. If i can remove and block up then result

what does that metal pipe actually do,

the pipe which comes out the back of my thermostat is straight, so maybe mine has a different housing on it?

Try Citroen, I was recently after a CAS sensor and was told by Peugeot that it was no longer available, went to Citroen and they had it for me the following day.

Apparently it's to heat up the coolant a big quicker using the heat from the exhaust manifold.
