shepherdfte 0 Posted May 12, 2006 Wondering about the top mount bearings, as I've never actually seen a set. I just picked up my top mounts 'kits' from the shop, which were listed as 'with bearing'. But I've only got (for each side) a rubber doughnut, and a big black metal cup/ring thing (slightly bigger than the doughnut). I was expecting some tapered needle roller or ball bearings? The monkeys in the shop were no help. Looking up the bearing number online (from an earlier post "it says VKD 35002 T on the box (Macpherson suspension bearing) and has BDA 1029 engraved on the bearing") shows no results. Any idea what it looks like, and where I might get a set considering I'm not near a bearing supplier? TIA Andy
888rmb 6 Posted May 12, 2006 You have got the bearings all ready. The big black metal cup thing is the bearing. You should be able to hold the top of it and turn the lower part. It might be quite stiff. When you get your struts out of the car things should be more obvious. There is an exploded diagram in the old style haynes manual which explains everything. shepherdfte 0 Posted May 13, 2006 AH!!! Thanks for that. Who'd of thought it! The guys in the shop had no clue either. In that case, £10 a side seems very good. Boge bearings and rubbers, so here's hoping there not total tat. Andy

Got them from MotorPartsDirect in Salisbury (01722 335382) (local to me). I think they were £10.49 each. Rubber seems quite soft, but the bearing seems ok quality. I might try a group N rubber later, and this one for now.

pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted May 15, 2006 I bought some top mount bearings seperately last week as I already have the group N rubbers & got a pair for £17 from my local motor factors I asked for the ones for a Citroen ZX as they don't come with the rubber & are the same size.
