She Wont Go Into Gear(clutch Lever?)

Recommended Posts

Guest darren1984

Hi guys!

I have a 205 gti with a gti-6 engine and 1.6 gearbox and the car simply wont go into gear..ive tried adjusting the cable to both extremes and you have to shove it into gear with some force,i have had a search on here about the clutch lever but what exactly goes wrong with them?..what was other peoples experiences if this happened?

Thanks alot

Darren

Sounds to me like the rings that disengage the gears are siezed and so arent allowing you to engage the gears

Seems like a rebuild to me mate

just release the cable and one large bolt through the centre! In fact it makes it easier to remove the starter bolts if you take the arm off-very easy

Doesn't sound like the gearbox is faulty then, more clutch related

I have removed the cable and the lever is very loose,is it suppose to be like this?,and i cant really see how it comes off,i can see like the end of a threaded nut but have no clue on takin it out,is this the pin?

Thanks alot

that pin is a pain to get out, it is supossed to just pull it out but it never happens.

What do you mean by the lever being loose? Play in the fork + shaft or that it can turn easily? It's ok if it moves round a little but you are not supossed to have any play in the bearings. The bearings aren't expensive (£2 ish each) but the box needs to come out.

No idea if that's what's causing your problem though

Try starting the car in gear with the clutch down if it jolts forward, the clutch plate has rusted to the flywheel.

Keep trying the starting in gear method with the clutch pedal should eventually free itself. Had this on my 205 only yesterday!

yeah,if you start it in gear with the clutch down,it doesnt jump forward, you can take off really smoothly by releasing the clutch, just cant get it into gear.lol
