saml666 0 Posted May 10, 2006 I will soon be lowering my Mi16 engine in, it has a reangled exgaust manfiold so I wondered where people best advise to cut and re-angle the downpipe to meet it properly? I guess right at the top maybe? I'm sure its fairly obvious when all in place but would prefer to get any advice before I rush in Cheers, Sam
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted May 11, 2006 If the manifold has been done properly you shouldnt need to cut and re-angle the downpipe...
Kev-G 1 Posted May 11, 2006 If the manifold has been done properly you shouldnt need to cut and re-angle the downpipe... Nonsense....By changing the angle of the manifold (re-angling) then the orientation of the manifold outlet to downpipe is changed.... saml666, Remove the complete flange from the downpipe @ the welded join to leave the pipe with nothing attached....Bolt flange to manifold (with gasket) and then offer up the pipe. Mark, tack, remove + weld completely....
jackherer 543 Posted May 11, 2006 If the manifold has been done properly you shouldnt need to cut and re-angle the downpipe... unfortunately thats not the case.
Man3 0 Posted May 11, 2006 I have a cut and re-welded manifold and my std downpipe fits fine.
Ryan 99 Posted May 11, 2006 I think it's pot-luck. Sometimes they fit, sometimes they don't - depending on who did the manifold, which make of downpipe you have, phase of the moon, etc...
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted May 11, 2006 Nonsense....By changing the angle of the manifold (re-angling) then the orientation of the manifold outlet to downpipe is changed.... Its not nonsense as we do this on all our conversions at 205parts and have no problems.
saml666 0 Posted May 11, 2006 Cheers guys, the re-angled manifold is of unknown origin so will see what happens, if it needs readjusting I'll do it right at the flange as advised Ta all Sam
Higgy 0 Posted May 12, 2006 Hi Sam, Look here for pictures detailing my downpipe modification: Higgy's Downpipe Mods If I was doing it again, I would take about 35mm off instead. My car had OEM looking 2-piece system. Higgy. P.S. I used QEP re-angled manifold plate.
