Patches 0 Posted May 10, 2006 (edited) Right, I finally got my shiny unused spanners out and had a go..,, Got towed the other day as power cut out whilst driving, fuel pump suggested as culprit, Ive swapped the fuel pump ( with some kerfuffle...) ( to find the filter of the old one at the bottom of the tank,,,) , it seems ok now as I can hear it kick in (priming?) when the igniton is switched on... Also - the car started initally after me swapping it over, idled fine, very happy :-).... then I did a really silly thing and turned the car off!! Wont start again :-( may be worth noting that I also removed and exchanged the cooling fan aswell due to recent overheating and fan dying..., b;tch of a job that was!! So - Here I am - jobs complete, but car wont start... starter clicks ( recently replaced), short quiet humming noise after ignition is switched off ( alternator??) and nothing else. Also - very rarely on attempts to start, the rev counter would fly up to 3000 revs with no noise from the engine... Any suggestions greatly appreciated... Am covered in crud , bruises , cuts , and general undercar wildlife from my experience lol!!! Edit - Thank Yous go to DaveW ( as always) and ak205 for assistance so far!! Cheers Michelle Edited May 10, 2006 by patches23
wildejon 7 Posted May 10, 2006 Mine was doing that and it turned out the sound was coming from the fuel pump as it wasn't shutting off properly. I was advised so give the relay attached to the ECU a bit of a nudge (or a little harder), it's been fine ever since :-) I think that the relay is on it's way out but as long as I can hit it to get it all working again I'm not going to complain
Ahl 4 Posted May 10, 2006 I'd try another tachymetric relay (fuel pump and injector relay). It can easily show the symptoms you described above as it gets rather hot and eventually the solder comes loose on one of the connections. Its quite possible for it to work one minute, and not the next.
steve@cornwall 100 Posted May 11, 2006 changed the fuel pump on mine when it had problems (pre-engine change). Itstarted ran for a short while and then wouldn't start again. I could hear the fuel pump but got no pressure when i released the fuel line to the rail. turned the wiring connector around on the pump-away she went! I know these plugs are usually sealed in but my replacement had no sealant. Don't know if the polarity differs on different models?
