Hiya peeps,

just bought a pug 205 GTI 1.9 8v and having problems with it,the cars running like a bag of spanners with lumpy idle and constant stalling, the cars spec is:-

performance head and cam from power zone,

superchip,

4 branch manifold and magnex system,

K + N Filter,

thats all I can find out but it had a dyno run in 2001 (below) and it looks like it might of had a bit of work done to it to get these figures!!!

Mvc-115s.jpg

Ive checked plugs, leads, distributor cap, cleaned AFM + inlet manifold and they all seem fine.

The cam belt was changed recently do you think the timing might be out or the superchip might be to blame!!!

Any help would be appreiciated,

Andy

Lumpy idle is a characteristic of the car and it doesnt help that you have a different cam fitted

The stalling issue could be a number of issues. Your best bet is to go and get it set up properly at a tuning garage or rolling road.

Well lumpy idle is common and with a cam is to be expected to be worse but may improve with tuning.

Stalling+lumpy idle probably means it is running rich and/or idle is set too low. The superchip can be used to adjust the fuel mixture as can the AFM.

The AFM adjuster is for idle only and is fairly safe to play with. The superchip has two adjusters, one for idle and one for everything else this is not so safe to play with without a rolling road to hand.

A clean of the AFM may work wonders, depends how mucky it is.

Could try a search for idle as lumpy idle is a common problem even on stock cars.

I have removed and looked at the AFM and its spottless, think my best bet is to get it on a rolling road and get it set up properly, its definately not as quick as it should be,think its over fuelling badly!!
