kruder 0 Posted May 10, 2006 the sunroof on my 205gti wont open, its the slide back type operated via a vacuum seal, Ahl has already told me to check the pipes..checked them at the T-joint and they seem fine, but cant trace them from there. Ahl said they attach to the engine at some point,, cant see where..can anyone offer any help cos I'm stumped,,and its scorching weather here just now..not that it'll last but...any help would be greatly appreciated
Simes 248 2 Cars Posted May 10, 2006 There is also a cable mechanism that locks the sunroof in the fully closed and fully open position, worth checking that out. You'll have to remove the area around the interior light.
kruder 0 Posted May 10, 2006 and how do I remove that?
Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted May 10, 2006 Sure the seal isn't stuck to the glass? It can "glue" itself to the glass if not opened for a long time and need a little help to release.

Veero 1 Posted May 11, 2006 There is also a cable mechanism that locks the sunroof in the fully closed and fully open position, worth checking that out. You'll have to remove the area around the interior light. Yeah cable mechanism was a prob on my F plate. The little knob had snapped off the end of the cable meaning it didnt withdraw the release mechanism. The seal was working fine. Does your hiss at all? You should see the seal physically deflate. If not then yes vacuum pipe, if it does and is still solid chances are the cable is broken. How much resistance is there to the sunroof release handle? To get access to the internals you need to pop out the courtesy light and undo the screws holding the upper center bit in. The rest should become clear. Where my cable had snapped the end of the wire was just visible so I released the lock mechanism by pulling the wire with mole grips. You need to remove the rear bump stops from the slides to slide the glass far enough back to get access to the cable stop within the release mechanism. A cable from pug is about £18 Hope that helps Veero
kruder 0 Posted May 11, 2006 no resistance from the release handle whatsoever and no hiss or any other sound...i'm guessing it must be the vacuum box or pipes leading to it...if i can only get the damn screw off........
