16v205 9 Posted May 9, 2006 Hi Just got hold of a maniflow/longmans mi16 4-2-1 exhaust manifold and am wondering how it joins to the rest of the exhaust system. Ive currently got a 3 piece magnex exhaust system on my mi16 and would like to keep the centre box if possible. Is the manifold made for use on the newer 2 piece systems? I cant remember where the 2 piece system splits Is it possible to buy a flange that fits the manifold so I can weld up my own joining pipe? Mongo 0 Posted May 9, 2006 It is supposed to match up to the maniflow system. The bore is 57mm, it should be able to match up to your magnex system, you could get a mild steel section and weld it onto the Y piece and then onto the rest of the magnex, i think jonmurgie has this setup. I got a mongoose system matched up to it in the same fashion with a mild steel section between the Y piece and the mongoose stainless (mongoose is 57mm bore) and it sounds quite nice. Miles 331 1 Cars Posted May 9, 2006 It is just a case of making it fit with either a flared bit of pipe or if your lucky it will slide over the existing pipe as per a normal exhuast
16v205 9 Posted May 10, 2006 Dont suppose anyone sells a cupped flange that I could weld to the original middle section? Id prefer not to weld direct on the manifold so I can sell it if need be, suppose I could just push the middle silencer onto the manifold as Miles suggested but it seems silly not to fit it properly. Might go down the breakers and grab a tu downpipe to size the cup up with, the xu ones are too big. Cheers Rich
Wurzel 16 Posted May 10, 2006 There are purpose built reducer pipes just for this job. It means a couple of extra joins (require sealing and potentially can leak) but a better option for the diy mechanic with no welding facilities. Demon Tweeks sell them, use their catalogue to get an idea and then search the web for better prices. Some tuning shops will also sell them to allow the fitment of larger backboxes etc to standard exhausts My current Magnex is 2" in diameter whist the maniflow style manifold is 2.25". There is an adaptor that fits this available from a local tuning shop near me so they must be available elsewhere. If you're really luck, you might be able to find an exhaust place that will sort something out for you or let you rummage through their skip armed with a hacksaw.
