New Clutch

Recommended Posts

Guest Tidybri

When i have my foot flat on the clutch and the car is in gear it moves forward still. I know this is not normal but is it a new clutch or a far more simple and cheaper option such as a loose clutch cable or something?

Any help is apreciated as i am a novice at all this mechanical stuff this being my 1st car!!

Probably just haven't adjusted the clutch cable correctly - is the biting point pretty much on the floor per chance?

Only brought the car 2 weeks ago guy said he had fitted a new cable thats why i asked if it may need tightening. As it happens the biteing point is really low is it a hard job ?

Try adjusting the cable first of all, its on the lever arm on the gearbox. Adjust the bolts on the cable end to tighten it up.

However, if the previous owner has fitted a new cable recently, that would suggest to me the clutch may have gone and he was trying to mask it with a new cable.

If it is the clutch, its not a big job, more of a ballache.

i'm not that local but can help you out mate

if it is a clutch job it can be done in a day easy as long as everything is there to change :D

try adjusting cable so biting point is more to the top of pedal...

if biting point is low down it will wear the clutch out faster :o

Buy yourself a Haynes Manual - complete joke it might be, but it's fine when it comes to basic jobs.

Basically you just need to tighten the nuts up on the gearbox end of the clutch cable - 10 and 13mm spanner you'll need, and if it's a recent cable then it should be straight forward -_-

Well i had a bash at tightening the clutch cable on saturday. and it appears a bit odd to me can someone post a picture how it should look as i think mine is wrong. the bar that the cable is attached to near the tension bolts the arm comes off and is wedged with a piece of metal when this is removed the pedal sits flat to the floor even if the cable is tight. If i put it back in and tighten the cable again the pedal now sits higher then the brake and accelerator.

I am now quite worried as it isnt right i guess?

Any ideas folks???

The end of the cable should be a threaded bar, this goes through a big round rubber grommet thing (which sits in the lever). There is then a round disk that the rod goes through and the bolts then tighten the rod up to the disc.

Mine also needs doing as it creeps in neutral.

Thats exactly how it looks but the suport arm is wedged further out tith a piece of metal which droped when i losened the cable 1st so i left it out but the pedal was on the floor.

I put it back where i think it fell out and re tightened the cable and now it sits high but works

Is there a way of texting a picture to post would be easier if i cld show you
