Make My Own Loom

Recommended Posts

Owain1602

I think im going to make my own wiring loom for the lighting and other various things in the 205. I think ill keep the warning gagues such as pressure and temp, have already removed the injection loom and ECU as im going to carbs.

Im going to start from the start with the wiring for the lights and indicators and keep the wiper and washer loom.

Has anyone else done this? Does anyone have a wiring diagram they have made showing what i will need.

I was thinking of mouting a metal plate on the dash somewere so i can mount the relays and fuses and probably get rid of the light stalk for side lights and dip beam but maybe keep it for full beam for ease of use. I dont want the stupid dim/dip function on cos i think its just rubbish anyway and i wont need the fog lights. Its gonna be a stages car so most of interior will come out except maybe top of dash, display and stalks but it still needs to pass an MOT.

What do you guys think? cheers

Not an impossible job, but quite involved just the same.

I'd check with a local MOT testing station to find out about the lights and what it required (lighting stalks etc). If it's a stages car, I assume they will use public roads occasionally as link roads, therefore the car needs to be road legal?

Wiring diagrams can be found in the Haynes manuals. They are actually quite good but don't give much of an indication as to routing. That, you will have to find out yourself. With the car stripped, it should be a lot easier.

The more modern wiring available today is much lighter (for equivalent current ratings) so that should be a plus point as well. How about using some avaition style resettable circuit breakers instead of fuses? They look quite cool and protect the circuit better?

Anyways, good luck as I think a few have thought about doing it, but few have done it -_-
