replaced AFM after being advised that my 205gti 1.6 wouldnt idle when warm,,,no difference whatsoever...is it that I have to adjust the idle speed or is it something...please bear in mind Im almost a complete novice and moneys a bit tight at the mo so I would like to avoid putting the Pug into a garage if possible..any help would be most appreciated..thanks

If you have just swapped the afm then the mixture will need setting up as it will be set to the engine it came off, youll need to get it on a gas analyser to set it properly. What does it do when warm?

when the engine warms up, after about 5ish miles or so, it wont idle, whenever you stop the revs die and the engine cuts out...happens when coasting as well...

You might need to adjust the allen screw to get the idle mixture about right, but it shouldn't make that much difference, it should idle to some degree.

What revs does the engine idle at when cold?

around 1k-1.5k...but as it warms the idle speed drops then eventually drops off altogether

Ok, the car should idle 1.5-2k when cold, then drop back to about 1k when warm. Its also possible that your rev counter is misreading and that its revving even lower.

The first thing you might want to try would be to increase the cold idle to 2k, then see how it runs when warm. You can do this by rotating the screw on top of the throttle body anti-clockwise.

If your not comfortable with messing about like this, its probably a good idea to count the turns incase you want to put it back.

Actually before doing that, try this when its cold: on the 'elbow' pipe running below the AFM, find the little pipe that comes off on the outside of the bend. Pinch it hard to stop air entering. Does your idle drop?

Did the car cut out when the pipe was fully pinched?
