Pug_101 0 Posted May 8, 2006 Noticed that the drivers side top mount was leaning in. It seems excessive to me and more than the passengers side. I've taken a pic of both below. Drivers side Passengers side Is this normal and if not how will it effect the handling?
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted May 8, 2006 Was the wheel dead staright ahead? Thats pretty normal, unless you have group N rubbers where there is no gap anymore. Possible that a top mount bearing is breaking up or something isn't seated properly making it sit at that angle. Graham.

Pics taken at the same time, The steering wheel is about 30' to the left of centre. Will check again after a run and stopping with wheel dead centre. Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted May 8, 2006 You might notice that the top of the strut is not exactly flat and the bolts are not very parallel. In short the top of your towers are BENT and the top mounts are also bent to match. The tops of the towers should be flat and the three bolts parallel. Given the damage I think it quite possible that something else may also be damaged... Rob P.S. Seen bent strut tops once before (on one of Anthony's cars), can't remember what he did to manage it though...

Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted May 8, 2006 As said I've only seen one like this before, the Rally boys must come across this regularly. On Anthony's we only noticed when scrapping it but I imagine a big hammer is the answer or a welder if that don't work. I'm no expert on this stuff though, just thought I'd ought to point it out. Come join the p****ed off with French crap club! Many a swear word has been directed at mine recently. Rob
bren_1.3 1 Posted May 8, 2006 i think this can be quite common. numerous motorsport companys specialising in 205's make strut top strengthening plates as they can bend. certainly ours over a large jump bent up like the photo shows.
Pug_101 0 Posted May 8, 2006 Can someone post a pic or 2 of a good tower so I can have comparison and work out the best solution. Looking at trying to bend them back into shape using 2 strong plates that can be bolted together. one above and one below the out of shape metal. I was planing to change the mounts this weekend as a matter of course and the peugeot dealer quoted a kit for the top mount £22+vat, but could not give me an accurate descripition of the contents. I guess this would be a rebuild kit rather than new top mounts as I wanted. Does anyone have knowage of this kit? sorry no part number.
bren_1.3 1 Posted May 8, 2006 just whack it back into shape with a rubber lump hammer. tried and tested. if your that bothered about it then have it plated up and welded. i wouldnt worry about it. i put m10 bolts through the top mounts as i hate those piddly little 11mm bolts on the top mount aswell. it's just a weak area in my opinion. you can hardly say its out of character for a peugeot 205 can you. they bend and flex like nothing else.
