newdean0 0 Posted May 7, 2006 Hi, I'm trying to find an exhaust system to use with my MI16 conversion and I've spotted a few mongoose systems around. These are stainless steel with a siamised downpipe, only problem is the siamised bit splits into two separate pipes before coming together again further down the pipe. It looks like it's impossible to chop/weld to shorten it so would have to be used as is. Has anyone used one of these or modified it on a 205 MI conversion and does it hand too low on the car? jackherer 543 Posted May 8, 2006 I've got one but I haven't modified or fitted it yet. I don't see any reason why it can't be cut, reangled and welded up in the same way as a genuine downpipe really, but I haven't put much time into it yet. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
newdean0 0 Posted May 10, 2006 The problem I see is that from the manifold flange the downpipe separates into two separate pipes. If you remove the flange and shorten the pipes they aren't going to meet unless you get them bent; and then you'd need to re-make the D shaped cross section to enable them to reconnect to the manifold flange. I reckon they would be pretty expensive to modify. It's not a very good picture but you can see at the engine end how the downpipe splits off into two pipes rather than a siamised design. jackherer 543 Posted May 11, 2006 You dont need to take very much off so I dont think there will be much of an issue as the two pipes are still siamesed where it needs work. With a very minimal reangling of the flange the whole exhaust system might end up a touch further back than normal (no more than a couple of cm) so some adjustment of the hangers might be necessary.
