Mi16 Or Gti6 Head For A 2045cc Lump

Recommended Posts

Alan_M

I'm currently trying to decide which head to use on a 2045cc lump, as i've got both kicking around.

Is there any advantage to running either?

As I understand it, the GTi6 head has double valve springs but larger exhaust valves which would be a step backwards from an Mi16 head.

Now, my Mi16 head has been rebuilt, already has 3 angle seats and backcut valves, along with some Kent 262 regrinds.

I guess it would make sense to use my Mi head, but is there anything that i've not considered?

Obviously, the Mi head chambers would have to be modified to account for the bore increase (And would give a reason to stick some different cams in :( )?

The S16 head has an identical chamber to the 1.9L Mi16 head, and it sits on the 86mm bore. You don't have to do anything, but you could make use of the metal available and unshroud the inlet valves a bit more. I'd use the Mi16 head. Don't forget you'll need nine M12 head bolts plus one diesel head bolt for the odd hole near the exhaust pulley.

I agree with Peter. Use the Mi head.

I would use the GTi6 head, Better design and the cam's are better to cut a long story short

Miles, will that manifold you sold me fit a GTi6 head? It looks like it may well do, as it has the 5 bolt holes on top along with 5 on the bottom.

The GTi6 exhuast porting is completly different, It's closer and the ports are a different shape and have a larger dia belive it or not
