TVR Gary 0 Posted May 6, 2006 Mine has a small split in it so im probably loosing power. Is changing the part an engine out job? What would you recommend? Im led to believe the std part is as good as anything? Cheers Gary
hengti 2 Posted May 6, 2006 what's the motor? re. 8v : the best 8v mani is probably the Magnex one (£200) - more torque & little more power easy enough to change - you'd need to disconnect the top engine mount to get a tubular mani back in though
TVR Gary 0 Posted May 7, 2006 Yes its a 8 valve ...... thanks for the advice. Any further recommendations from anyone? Gary
sorr 0 Posted May 7, 2006 It is not and engine out and would be really easy to do if the bolts are not seized. To get at it remove the airbox and it is just bolts to undo. From memory I am sure some of the lower bolts can be easily accessed from under the car. Usual drill; soak well with penetrating oil then give it a go. pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted May 8, 2006 Definately not an engine out job. Plan it a week or two ahead & spray the manifold nuts with some penetrating oil. If the nuts are 13mm then you could be Ok but the smaller ones (10 or 11mm iirc) generally round off or shear the studs. As mad as this might sound loosen them off after the car has had a run so the manifold has got some heat in & the bolts come undone easier. If the downpipe bolts don't want to come undone I've found a good way around this with a long handled screwdriver & a hammer. Hit the studs down & break the tophat section off so they slide through the manifold & you can cut them off when the exhaust is off the car. A socket can be used on all but the two middle nuts underneath the manifold. Use genuine manifold gaskets btw. Graham.
