Front Flexi Hose Routing

Now my car is off axle stands i've checked the flexi hoses and they seem too short, even with the wheels facing straight

 

I've got gti6 calipers on and I know that longer hoses should be used but 50mm isn't going to make any difference

 

The hose isn't tight at all, even on full lock, it just doesn't look right, but, if i take the hose off and run it round the back of the strut instead of the front its fine, would it be ok to make some kind of bracket to hold the pipe on the other side of the strut?

Are you sure you have your struts the right way round?

They are deffo in the right way round, theres locating bump things on the back so they only go one way

Are you running std fexi hoses or braided?

 

I swear I heard you can swap the capliers over to make it easier to use std length hoses. Have you done this?

Im using braided hoses

 

Didnt get chance to take any pics, if you swap the calipers over the pipe will go into the bottom of the caliper, surely this will make the problem worse?

Sounds like you have it right.

 

Odd, i'm sure there's been people on here using braided hoses that were fine with a gti-6 setup.

Will do tomorrow, it looks fine when its jacked up with the wheel off but when i have it on the ground and look behind the wheel it seems wrong

 

I'll see what i can do to get some pics of the problem and measure the braided hoses against standard ones

 

I'm in no real hurry to sort it, the car wont be on the road for a bloody long time anyway!

Ok here's some pics (finally got round to taking some!), I took the wheel off and put some wood under the ball joint then let it off the jack so this is roughly how it will be with a wheel on

The hose isnt tight but it just doesn't look right!

 

What's your thoughts?

If you were to swap your struts so the left was on the right side of the car and vise versa would the brake hose clips on the struts foul the inner arch?

If not it looks like the hoses would have less distance to cover if they were behind the struts instead of in front as they are now, just an idea like

If I swapped the struts the drop link bracket would be in the wrong place, but I think it might be a good idea to make some brackets to hold the hose on the other side of the strut

 

I'll have a crack at it next time I get chance

They do look a bit tight, is the bracket for the hose union in the standard position? Looks like the hose will strain with the suspension at full compression.

 

If you're sure they're long enough to handle the full suspension stroke then I wouldn't bother with the brackets on the strut, just strap the hose to it with a zip tie. That's what I've got on my car and they work fine, no signs of chafing / kinking / straining of the hoses (the Bilstein competition strut bodies don't even have a bracket for the brake hose).

If brake lines rub against the body its a fail, I know the strut isn't the body like?

Hadn't thought of that, but mine has passed the MoT like that. If they're strapped up tight then they'll move with the strut and won't rub anyway.
