Guest Tidybri Posted May 5, 2006 Not long had my Pug and noticed it had slashes out of the pasenger rear tyre. Is this a common problem when fitting 1.9 alloys on a 1.6? Do i need to do something with the arces or something???? Any help is apreciated thanks
Jonmurgie 2 Posted May 5, 2006 I take it the car is lowered... quite a lot? It shouldn't rub so there's definatley something up there
Guest Tidybri Posted May 5, 2006 no it aint been lowered!!! i guess the previous owner has messed with something to make it like this?? Wot are the options here then?

Anthony 1,003 Posted May 5, 2006 Is it rubbing on the outside or inside of the arch? All of these cars at at the age where the rear beam is failing and allowing the wheel to camber and rub on the inside arch - the excess negative camber should be obvious if you look at the back of the car (or feel between the wheel and inner arch with your fingers)
trickywoo 0 Posted May 5, 2006 Not long had my Pug and noticed it had slashes out of the pasenger rear tyre. Is this a common problem when fitting 1.9 alloys on a 1.6? Do i need to do something with the arces or something???? Any help is apreciated thanks I've got 1.9 alloys on a 1.6 with 195/50/15 tyres and there is a reasonable gap on the inside (no rubbing). As said above that is a possible symptom of a knackered beam. If you also have creaking noises or a stiff ride at the back then thats your problem.
Guest Tidybri Posted May 5, 2006 (edited) Oh that sounds like a expensive/big job 2 fix? Will check it out when i get home later, it rubs on the top on the outside there isnt alot of room towards the front edge of the arch either Edited May 5, 2006 by Tidybri
maturin23 10 Posted May 5, 2006 Measure the track width - could be a 309 rear beam. Mine is (and a strip-down showed that all was well with the bearings) and with the height set a little too low the wheelarch chews a bit out of the tyres.
Guest Tidybri Posted May 5, 2006 IS THIS AN EASY THING TO DO CAN I NOT JUST MAKE IT HIGHER THEN??
Simes 248 2 Cars Posted May 5, 2006 IS THIS AN EASY THING TO DO CAN I NOT JUST MAKE IT HIGHER THEN?? From the picture it looks high enough. looking at the rear of your car from about 20m away, do the wheels look like this / \ or / | or | \ ?
Guest Tidybri Posted May 6, 2006 Haven't been able to get a good look today but think maybe l \ so is that bad? i guess so so wots mu next step can i just swap the hole thing and maybe upgrade to disks?
Guest Tidybri Posted May 7, 2006 Well finaly got chance to take a proper look today!! Seems the previous owner had put spacers on the rear!! Now removed them hopefully this will solve my problem if not will have to think again.
Garry 1 Posted May 7, 2006 Also, check that both bumpstops are present. They are small rubber cones fitted to the chassis, just in a bit from the wheel arch. I lost one of mine and when hitting big bumps the wheel would touch the arch.
pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted May 8, 2006 Seems the previous owner had put spacers on the rear!! I know of people that have found this before & the spacers were fitted because the wheel was hitting the inner wing due to the beam bearings dying. Hope its not the case this time though. Graham.
