feb 47 Posted May 4, 2006 Hi, This has happened twice during the last couple of months but its really annoying. When trying to start the car from cold, the car won't start, seems like its running rich. i leave it for a while and trying to start again i hear a big bang from the exhaust. What could be causing this? i suspect an ECU temp sensor but then it would make it more often and not just twice in 2 months. Also the car is stalling and revs are playing up when cold. Need to try loosening the nut of the SAD as i read somewhere but the problem with the flooding is bad thanks, Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Pug_101 0 Posted May 4, 2006 Hi Is the engine standard? how does it run/start when warmed up? From the info you posted if its ok when hot I wonder if your getting a good spark. Also check that all electrical contacts are sound wouldn't the sad only effect the idle rather than the starting? I am not 100% on this, but someone will be. Hi, it's a SBC road speed conversion (i.e. gas flowed head with a slightly different cam to standard, rebuilt and blueprinted) when engine is warm its fine, just idling high (1.3-1.4k). now that ambient temps here are 15-20 it's fine but if it drops around 10 i have to brake and keep the revs up at the same time in junctions in order not to stall. Pug_101 0 Posted May 6, 2006 I guess the SAD could be playing up if you have high idle when hot, could also be an air leak. Gunson do a "low gauge" for measuring vacuum for about £10, could be worth buying and fitting it to the dizzy tube. If the needle is steady at idle then no air leak, if its moving a lot very likly to be an air leak. The gauge does a few other things so probably worth buying even if it does help in this matter. First though, to check the SAD out when the engine is hot squeeze one of the air tubes connected to it so no air can flow and see if the idle changes. If it does then adjust replace the SAD, if not when engine is warm at least it working Ok. Of course this info is based on the fact that no new bits have been fitted or cleaned (AFM,Dizzy etc.)and the idle used to be Ok and the high idle has developed over time.
