Bassman 1 Posted May 4, 2006 My coolant temperature gauge reads full house after about 2 minutes of driving. Occasionally the gauge will suddenly revert to a true reading in the middle as though there is a loose connection. (Note: the car is not overheating!) I am working on the car tomorrow afternoon (other half is at work so I'm allowed), I presume the temperature sensor is the one below the distributor, what sort of voltage should I see when the car is warmed up (~90oC) as I want to check the sensor is working correctly before I pull the gauges out. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted May 4, 2006 Not sure on the guage voltage(12v) but the temp guage sensor is at the back of the thermostat housing (behind the distributer) facing the bulkhead. Check the wiring to it (possibly from a brown multiplug on top of the gearbox) as the insulation can melt away giving these problems. Graham.
Bassman 1 Posted May 20, 2006 Sorted, took the instrument cluster out yesterday to have a look and to replace some bulbs and noticed that one of the three connections for the water temperature gauge was missing a nut to electrically connect it to the flexi-film. Nicked a nut off a spare cluster and Robert's your Father's brother!
