Engine Identification Numbers/codes Etc?

Recommended Posts

Baz

More questions!! Where can i find how to find out what engine codes on the log books are, in relation to the normal known ones, ie. 'XU___' or 'RFX' etc? as log books say a different code to these, like 'HJM___' and so on?

Have Autodata books etc but i'm pretty sure they don't give you these aswel and when you ask someone what the engine code is, the easiest way is to get the one from the log book of the vehicle etc.

Help!! :)

Cheers.

You won't find the XU engine code on the log book afaik, Just the engine number. None of mine have them on.

The engine ID plate is by the upper driverside engine mounting on the top of the block, if its still there. It'll be a three digit code D6B or B6D/E for a 1.9 GTi & 1.6 GTi (180A for the 105bhp ones).

Thanks for that Graham. But what i really need to know is say, from the owner of a 306 for example, what engine he has in his car, the easiest way for him to tell me is the number from his V5 log book, so is there any where i can cross reference that number with the numbers (XU_etc) we're all used to?

I don't think there is a way other than ringing Peugeot with the engine number & hoping their records match correctly.

The engine cc will give an indication of what engine is fitted though to a good extent.

Graham.
