ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted May 2, 2006 On warm days I've noticed a strong odour of petrol when stationary in traffic or just after a run it the car. I jumped out quick to find the source but couldn't see a leak. Only just recently I've noticed the smell is coming from the petrol filler cap on the rear quarter. The cap seal looks O.k. but the petrol fumes are defiantly coming there. How does the fuel system work, is the tank pressurised? Could I have a blocked breather pipe somewhere? There is a pic in Haynes of a anti vac valve (white plastic item) fitted to the end of the pipe going to the filler neck. Should mine have this part, cos I can't find one.
