Smoke Coming From Oil Breather?

you see that upright black thing inbetweeen the carbs and battery??

 

well coming from that is a hose and like a filter on it.

 

well i started it up today and there seemed to be abit of smoke / steam coming from that??

 

any ideas of what this could be?

That 'upright black thing' is your oil filler so I'm guessing you've only just bought the car?! There is a natural breather running to the cap of the oil filler and when fitting carbs you loose the natural return to the intake, do you have a catch tank fitted at all? Where does the small pipe from the cap go?

 

Aside from knowing the exactly routing of your pipes I'd suggest taking them all off and cleaning them out as they do tend to get filled up with gunk and can cause breather issues

thanks, the left hand one goes to the rocker cover, and the right hand pipe goes to a big filter that is bodged on with tape lol.

 

if i was to put more oil in, do i put it in there??
