Gearbox Differences

Recommended Posts

Guest maccagti

i have done a search and couldn't find anything on this topic, i'll be swapping my engine round soon with another 1.9 and want to know if there are any differences between phase 1 and 2 as my current one is phase 2 engine and bx and the new is phase 1.

are the ratio's different at all, is one stronger than the other, advantages and disadvantages?

whilst its all out i'l be changing the clutch and cambelt, makes sense rather than having to do it again once its in.

cheers

Ahl

Search for BE1 (earlier) and BE3 (later) gearboxes.

The later gearboxes have reverse opposite 5th and I think they are generally a bit stronger, though I don't know for sure.

Stick with the phase 2 if you don't want the hassle of fitting a "lifter"cable (complete pain0, ph 1 gearstick,ph1 clutch cable and ph1 clutch pedal too! I prefer the ph2 box anyway as it seems to have a shorter throw between gears.
