Brakes, Flexi Hoses...

Recommended Posts

Right, I have just got home and there is something very wrong.

The brakes have felt like they are binding recently but tonight they felt really soft.

Press the brake pedal and all pressure goes slowly, I looked in behind the wheel and the fluid has sprayed out. It's a bit dark at 4am but I'm guessins a flexi hose has split.

This would also explain the binding if the lines had broken down internally.

Will 1.6 or 1.9 gti braided lines fit the 1.4 XS?

Is this a hard job to do? <_<

Dunno whether the GTi kit will fit an XS, but replacing the flexi lines is a piece of piss to do - unbolt the caliper from the hub, 14(?)mm spanner to separate the lines from the calipers, then separate the lines from the copper pipe where it attaches to the mount on the inner wing.

Only snag I had is that the copper pipe was welded solid into the flexi line, no chance of ever getting it out. I just put the angle grinder through the copper pipe and knocked a new one up. Took me around an hour to do both sides, including knocking up the new copper pipe, and I'm no mechanic!

Hope this helps.

aslong as they arent seized, as said its easy to do...

your probably best off undoing the hose with the calliper still bolted on, then when you've losened it, then unbolt the calliper.

A 1.6 kit won't fit as the 1.6 has a different setup to all the other 205s.

I'm reasonably sure the 1.9 kit would fit (although you'd have 2 hoses left over), but I wouldn't like to say for sure as I've never looked at the brakes on an XS.

If you wanted braided you could always buy the pipe and fittings indivudually to make up your own set.
