Smell Coming From Engine

hi everyone, i bought a 205 gti miami blue limited edition last august,i recently had a new head gastet and stem seals and water pump,but i have started to notice a smell when i put the fans on in the car a,its nasty and kind of like a radiator smell, anyone got any ideas?

Run the engine and check for leaks around the hoses and rad, in terms of obvious water leakage, steam or crystalisation.

 

 

Or it could be that the mechanic has left his salmon sandwich under there somewhere. :)

hoping that its the salmon sandwich!! but seeing as its probably not,whats is the matrix?and how can i tell if thats whats wrong?will try tomorrow for leaks etc but have already had a look round whilst engine was on,

thanks for the replies, any other possibilities?

3 consecutive nights of that cack starting on tv soon too. might watch the 2nd one, but i'll be carefully avoiding the other 2!

 

as Richie says; it's a little radiator in the centre of the dash - it uses the engine coolant to provide the heat for the cabin heater - you can see it if you look underneath the dash under the steering wheel - the pipes coming from the bulkhead connect to it. They can leak from the seals where these pipes connect to the matrix, or it might be the matrix itself that has sprung a leak.
