Alastairh 47 Posted April 28, 2006 Well just putting my freshly painted front sub frame back on the track car, also after giving the engine bay a quick paint. And as you do put all the 17mm bolts in the holes and tighten them up the sub frame. The only problem is this one: I put the bolt in, and it was a bit stiff, so un done it, quick squirt of wd40, check the thread was clean on the bolt, and re tryed tightening it. Only it was stiff again, and i've been on the weetabix and i think the nut inside the shell which i presume is welded to it has broken its weld. Any ideas what i could do? Its not urgent now, but need to get it sorted some time so the car can back on the road eventually. Alastair
Jonmurgie 2 Posted April 28, 2006 This happened on mine as well... the nut isn't welded in there as you think but it's a nut on a clip that sits in the space. The fix we did was drill a 10p size hole in the chassis so we could get a normal nut in there (nylock actually). You can see the hole in this picture: http://www.mdracing.co.uk/images/enginerem...large/pic17.jpg I guess your problem is you now have a bolt stuck in there, you'll probably have to cut that off then use a screwdriver or something to prise the nut thing out of the way to get a new nut in it's place. Hope that helps!
Alastairh 47 Posted April 29, 2006 Ok nice one, gives me an idea. A good long think will be in order. Any other peoples comments would be much appreciated. Alastair
niklas 1 Posted April 29, 2006 Get a new one from Peugeot: 6941.81 CAGED NUT 10X150
B1ack_Mi16 67 Posted April 29, 2006 Get a new one from Peugeot:6941.81 CAGED NUT 10X150 I'm with this one, get a new one and it'll be fine, I just changed both front nuts on mine before putting subframe on again after paint.
Alastairh 47 Posted April 29, 2006 But how do you remove/replace the nut then, Cut it out like Jon said?
Jonmurgie 2 Posted April 29, 2006 Yeah I'd like to know that as well... can't quite see how to get at it as mine is still IN the hole, just moved over a bit!
B1ack_Mi16 67 Posted April 29, 2006 But how do you remove/replace the nut then, Cut it out like Jon said? This is how the "nuts" look: You just simply take a flat screwdriver and first you push the whole nut forward in it's slot in the chassis-leg. When doing this the rear lip will be able to come out of the slot, so just use the screwdriver in the threaded area to make the whole nut-assembly swing out of the slot. You'll guaranteed see how it works when you start doing it. Hope this was to some help, despite my crap explanations in english
