Toddman 0 Posted April 28, 2006 Need some advice/help I bought a twin 42mm throttle body that I was told was a weber item for the mi16. However I have the TB and it has an extra breather take-ff. No problem there I can just blank it. The issues I have are two fold - 1 - The TPS bolt holes are too close together so I can only use 1 bolt to secure it 2 - The actual linkage is missing all bit 1 part of the bottom choke and it is totally different to the std setup. Here are 2 pics of the TB http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bx16v/a6_1_b.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bx16v/aa_1_b.jpg Can anyone please tell me if this is normal or is this TB not built for an mi but taken from another car and if so what car so I can go find a linkage. Mad Professor 7 Posted April 28, 2006 Thats the same style TB as the one on my mates Mi16.
Toddman 0 Posted April 28, 2006 Thanks for that. Chap I got it off has told me that he used only 1 TPS screw so might see about machining a 2nd one into place. He also told me that the linkage is lsightly different in that you only use the large cable guide part and it directly moves the 2nd choke. Will have a play tomorrow. Thanks Luke
KRISKARRERA 2 1 Cars Posted April 29, 2006 How strange. I know they had 2 different styles of linkage for the 1.9 mi TB.
IvarS 0 Posted April 29, 2006 All parts are interchangeable, just swap over the cable mount and springs from the 38mm tb. The spring is important since there are two springs on the 42mm tb and the most powerful isn't fitted to the tb itself. Without it the single spring on the tb will not be able to close the throttle as resistance in the cable is too big.
d-9 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Looks a whole lot like an mi16 TB to me, that extra breather output on the bottom is a new one thou, dont remember seeing that before.
Toddman 0 Posted April 30, 2006 Thanks for the help It seems that the major issue is the parts that link the top and bottome spindles together. On my std body the top spindle has a small part on the side with a post sticking up and the bottom spindle has a longer part with a slot in it which the post sits inside. However on the bigger body the bottom spindle has the small part with the post and this is NOT removable but sadly the top spindle has no part attached apart from the spring. It looks like I need a part with a slot in it to make up the linkage similar in style to the std one. Does anybody knowor have pictures of the 2 types of mi16 body linkage I am hoping that I just need to source the different style body and take th eparts from that. petert 587 Posted April 30, 2006 It's off an XU9J4Z, which has an extra vacuum pipe for the charcoal canister. Just block it.
Toddman 0 Posted April 30, 2006 Excellent progress is being made. Right - here is a downloadable zip filed with 3 pics in it First 2 are of my std body and the 3rd is od the 42mm body http://www.bx16valve.co.uk/Files/Weber.zip You will see that the bigger bodys linkage seems to be a reverse style of the std one. The part I do not have is the slotted part - Now IS a DFW body like the 42mm item so I can just gran a cat body and swap the slotted bit over or will I need to speak to a weber agent and attemp to order a new part ? Many thanks for your help Cheers Luke
