Really Need Help, Smoking, Stop Sign On 100%

Hi all

I have a 1992 Miami Blue 1.9, its done 96,000 but Its quite smokey when started up, not too bad it idles fine but when you rev the car there is a little blue smoke. Also the stop sign on the dashboard is always on, although its very dim, and sometimes when being revved the coolant light flickers on and off. I have a friend who know's alot more than me and he's done a compression test and he said its fine, also Oil has just been changed and thats fine, has plenty of water, what is causing this? any help would be great thanks

Edit Also the gauges seemed to have stopped working the oil pressure needle is always near the red and never moves even if the car gets reved, the coolant temp needle does move but it gets just before half way before the car overheats so thats not reading right.

I'm by no means an expert but I've had similar symptoms with mine and have been advised that it could be the valve stems seals that are shot. Apparently if they are the engine will burn oil which could explain the blue smoke. If it then gets low on oil would that not illuminate the stop lamp on the dash?

Dave. (awaiting correction from forum expert!)

Oil burning is probably mostly valve stem seals, it usually is although it is perfectly possible that some is also getting part the piston rings.

Sounds like you have wiring/sensor problems on the lights and gauges. If the oil pressure warning light is not on but the gauge is reading zero then you have a gauge/sensor error as they are seperate sensors.

Glowing STOP is probably similar. STOP is linked to oil pressure and coolant temp warning lights so possible that there is another fault somewhere (or oil pressure really is that low but you don't want to think about the implications of that).

I have something similar at the moment - and in my case the Oilpressure Needle and stoplight both show a low oilpressure.

For you, the first thing to check could be the bolt, which holds the alternatorpully on the crankshaft. This has to be damn tight, because the toothwheel, which drives the Oilpump only holds by friction rather than a key. So it might be possible, that your pump has no drive.

second - try search for the infamous brown multiplug - this can cause trouble in your loom.

Next thing to check is the oilpump itself. There is a little spring and a little piston, which acts as a valve. If one of them or both are worn out and not closing there will be no oilpressure.

I have to check that next week - cause I have to wait for the parts from the peugeotdealer. (spring&piston)

btw. Spring&piston only cost a few cents :)

This happened to me and i nearly blew my engine up. It was only quarter of a turn loose but it made all the difference.

Sounds right for the lights and gauges. Usually found lurking under the airflow meter / ontop of the gearbox.

Smoke does sound like vale stem seals and mileage sounds prety close too
