yorkshirekowboy 19 1 Cars Posted April 28, 2006 hi, I have justed wired up second fan, what it is it works ok but when i put a switch on with a light, the relay clicks then the fan tries to turn for less than a second u can hear it try to turn, then thats it. I m using 27 amp wire all round even for switch, as it thought that would make liitle diff, and thats what i had lieing round, but the switch has a light and i want it on, if i swap the terminals round (swicth has 3, earth + light) but i ddi this on my other pug but i used a driving light wiring lamp kit and it had a diff relay!!! im just wondering if you think it my be that the 32 amp relay inst powerful enough for the fan and switch light power? The wiring is right checked it 1000000000000 of times, and the fan works as when put the two switch wires together relay clicks then it works, works on switch but light doesnt. had no probs before on other car!!!!need the light, even wire up light bit ony makes light work all the time!!! i only want it on when switch is on!!! must be relay??? any help would be good thanks
Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted April 28, 2006 Everything sounds OK, if the relay isn't man enough then it will kill the contacts after a while but not cause this. I'd try connecting the fan direct to the battery to test that the fan will run and it isn't just something wrong with the fan itself that means it stops. After that I'd start probing around with a multimeter to find where the volts are being dropped. This is the best indicator of where the problem lies. Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted April 28, 2006 OK so what information do you have about your switch? The above would suggest that the relay and fan are OK but there is something about the way the light in the switch is connected that is causing your problem. This is not necessarily a big problem you just need to understand how the light in the switch is wired to work out why it is doing this. Rob P.S. You are sure the fan is not drawing any power from the coil side of the relay aren't you. If the fan is drawing power through the switch then it could do some odd things.
