richsmells 2 Posted April 27, 2006 I've been noticing a knocking from the rear of the car recently but never thought anything of it. Just emptied some stuff from the boot and when I push up and down on the tailgate there is a distinct knocking from the passenger side area of the beam. I can't figure out what it is even when jacking the car up for a look. The beam was refurbished a few months ago, new shocks and beam mounts. Strange?? Mot is tomorrow so will no doubt fail on that
richsmells 2 Posted April 27, 2006 Just whipped off the exhaust, there was a bit of play in the top shock absorber bolt. Obviously worked itself a bit loose. Nipped it up. Job done. One less rattle!
richsmells 2 Posted April 27, 2006 Fitted the exhaust clamp back on and now the exhaust is blowing. Should i use some sealing gum stuff in the join?
Anthony 1,003 Posted April 27, 2006 Fitted the exhaust clamp back on and now the exhaust is blowing. Should i use some sealing gum stuff in the join? Yeah, a bit of exhaust putty and making sure the clamp is still straight should suffice
James_m 0 Posted April 27, 2006 Bit of a bastard to get to seal ive found, unless you have it on ramps or jacked up very high, one thing is though, If you cant get it to seal, it does'nt matter for the MOT as its only a failure if there is an actual hole in the exhaust strangely
richsmells 2 Posted April 27, 2006 its only a failure if there is an actual hole in the exhaust strangely Ha ha that's brilliant. I'm taking it to a garage i've never been to before as I can't get up to Miles' in time. I shall see what they say. Most items have been replaced since i've had the car and it seems in good order, bar the exhaust. Chuffed i sorted that rattle. It's a much more pleasant drive now. Wish me luck! richsmells 2 Posted April 28, 2006 (edited) Well... it failed! hahah. Headlight aim, insecure headlight???? wtf? horn not working... I used the bastard thing on the way to the test centre! + blowing exhaust join so couldn't test emissions. Advisory on corroded brake pipes. Car is now with Miles having new pipes fitted. Anything that hasn't already been replaced seems to be breaking. I might even treat it to some new headlights... and a wash. Alastairh 47 Posted April 28, 2006 Not too bad. I find a quick clean up with a wire brush and some putty does the job with the back box. Alastair
