dd_156ar 0 Posted April 25, 2006 Hi All Just in the process of fettling my new (to me) 1.9 GTI and I have decided I need a new gear knob as the old one is a bit chipped and scuffed. Now I intend to keep the car as standard as possible so I'm not talking about any kind of 'racing' knob, just your standard one. There's currently a knob for the BE1 gearbox on ebay (mine's an '89) but it's already up to £10... and I'm a tight Northerner living darn sarf I was looking at a couple of 205s in the scrappies a few days ago and got to thinking that apart from the red gear markings on the top the actual plastic bit is the same in all models - can anyone confirm??? If that is the case then I could just swap the top piece over... Dan

TEKNOPUG 3 Posted April 25, 2006 Sorry, misread the post. Thet plastic cap is different on P1 & P2 models. P1 is indented whereaes P2 is smooth IIRC. Just swap the whole gear knob over. I'm sure that you don't need reminding where reverse is when you drive?
richsmells 2 Posted April 25, 2006 1.6 models are indented. 1.9's are smooth. strange that.
