Juddering Under Braking

Recommended Posts

Guest woll

I have just put 15" wheels on my 1.6 and now when braking, there is a 'judder'. You can feel it through the brake pedal. I went straight back to the tyre place and they said that my discs are probably warped which kinda makes sense and they said puttng the larger wheels on will have highlighted this.

Does this sound right?

Cheers

No, putting larger wheels on wouldn't "highlight" warped brake discs.

Could be just that the discs are not sitting flat against the hub, either because of dirt / rust trapped between them, or possibly because there's the remains of a snapped disc-retaining screw standing proud of the hub which isn't lined up with the screw hole in the disc.

What condition are the tyres in and are they directional? A mate of mine had a very bizzare problem with juddering brakes after swapping his tyres front to rear and it turned out to be that the tyres had been run in in a particular direction and when swapping them over, effectively, they were running backwards and didn't like it.

Strange but true! :P

They're brand new tyres, and although cheap, have a simlarish tread pattern to an eagle F1 tyre so they look like they've been put on the correct way....and I hope the tyre place knew what they were doing (though this is Plymouth)!!

I'll take the wheel off tomorrow and investigate it, got no time at the moment.

Also just moved the car and there seems to be a lot of smoke coming out the exhaust!! next problem... forgot how much fun these cars are!!!
