Leon C 1 Posted April 24, 2006 I've bought a new cambelt, tensioner and coolant pump. However do I pay a through the nose for a garage to put em on or should I brave it and had a stab at it myself, taking into consideration my fairly novice mechanic skills. I've been quoted £150 for the labour which I think is a bit steep ...So just how hard is it anyway?
Jonmurgie 2 Posted April 24, 2006 This was discussed in the last week actually... try a search and some info will come up... some of the members offer to do the change for not too much £££ as it's a case of knowing what to do really... it IS a diy job though, if you fancy the challenge, it takes a while the first time you do it (took me over a day!) but that's just a learning curve! Leon C 1 Posted April 25, 2006 Well looks like i'll be having a go at it then ...Seriously can't afford that much now my insurance renewal is due! ...May be posting another thread asking how to rebuild the head though!
ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted April 25, 2006 When you put it back together, before turning the key, make sure you crank the engine over by hand (ratchet on crank pulley bolt) just to make sure the valves dont hit the pistons. The job is straight forward, the hardes part is getting the plastic covers off.
