Does the ignition module vary the rev limit ? as i am having a problem. Sometimes my gti varies its rev limit from 5500 rpm and sometimes 7000rpm

No there is no variable rev limit in on the 205... what does it do when it hits 5.5k then? And what gear/kind of driving are you doing at the time?

Mine's a little random atm too, always used to cut at 6200rpm, is that not standard? Always had suspicions of a chip in this ECU. :)

Anyone got a good guide on how to remove the rev limiter?

rev limits seem to vary if you change the ignition timing? read somewhere that removing the "109" diode in the 1.9 ecu removes rev limiter (or was that by-passing it) it's marked on the pcb, but absent in the 1.6 ecu.

Might get a spare and try it! Don't want to remove mine though. Hmmm, Ebay "1.9 ecu with rev limiter removed- buy it now £30 exchange" ker-ching :)

Try a search. There are a few old threads with specific instructions on how to do it. :D

One cause of stutters in the rev range (including rev limiter like effects) can be a failing ignition amplifier (also known as an ignition module). These usually give a consistant stutter that gets lower over time though.
