Pug_101 0 Posted April 22, 2006 I am looking to buy a Mi16 block. I have found one, but don't have much info other than the engine serial number which is: 1cw5d007160 can anyone use this to work out the details of the engine (age, size, type of car fitted to etc..). Hopefully it will be an early example, but at the moment I havent got a clue. Any help or links were I might find this info would be much appreciated. Pugnut 9 1 Cars Posted April 22, 2006 the engine type can sometimes be found in various places around the block , any d6c i have seen (early 160bhp) has had a tag which is rivited on the back of the block close to the water pump inlet.the DFW (late cat version) i have has it stamped onto the block on the front of the engine, bottom right corner. it could be anywhere though! Guest Cartooner Posted April 22, 2006 (edited) Didn't all early D6C's also have '1CW63' somewhere? I have come across two from citroen and both had 1CW63 on them. Edited April 22, 2006 by Cartooner

The main reason I want to know the details is my Gti is a cat model 1993 and I would like to change the engine for a pre cat type so I can take the cat off the exhaust. I believe it can be done legally this way for the MOT, but I will have to prove the age of the engine somehow. I have not seen the engine engine yet. I may see it in the next day or two and learn some more info then, Thanks
KRISKARRERA 2 1 Cars Posted April 22, 2006 Hmm interesting one this. If it's 1.9 it WILL be D6C. According to good old Parkers' guide the DFW was sold in UK at J/K reg but nobody has ever come across one.

Pug_101 0 Posted April 23, 2006 yes it is a D6C mate That's great news. Now how do I go about proving the engines age as to the following quote taken from "UKMOT.com" "Test according to which is older , engine or vehicle. eg. A 1995 car fitted with a 1991 engine (of whatever make), test to 1991 standards for emission purposes. Note: The onus is on the vehicle presenter to prove engine age." Anyone done this, can you give advice please. Thanks Paul
