Alex G 0 Posted April 22, 2006 i have these very fine but very noticable scratches (not down to the metal) on my moped which im 100% were done by a motorbikes rear foot rests. Ive got some MER and was trying to "cut" them out as it is a very light cutting compound but to no avail. I dont want to use wet and dry sandpaper to get the scratches out (even 1500 grit) as from previous experience i know it will make the paint look dull any advice would be great cheers in advance Alex
Paintguy 0 Posted April 23, 2006 I can't see Mer having very much of an abrasive effect though, as it's an 'everyday' sort of polish. A colour restorer like T-Cut would be a better bet, a proper rubbing compound better still. As a general rule, if the scratch disappears when you wet it, then it'll more than likely come out. Wet your finger, and rub it in to the scratch, and hopefully you can hardly see it. If so, I'd try first with a more abrasive rubbing compound, but if that doesn't do it, it'll have to be the wet&dry. Just go steady with it, giving it a few rubs, then polishing back up with the compound. Go over the area with your Mer once finished, and it'll remove any dullness left by the compound.
