Veero 1 Posted April 21, 2006 I thought it was too good to be true no coolant or oil leaks Looked under the car tonight and there's a tiny amount of oil on the lower cambelt cover. Short of dismantling the whole thing again is there any surefire way of finding where the leak is? It had new seals all round so Im hoping it isnt the main crank seal at that end. Could it feasibly be the end plate by the oil pump? Reaching the end of my tether here, box of matches is becoming more and more appealing Veero
Wurzel 16 Posted April 22, 2006 I had oil seepage culminating at the bottom of the cam cover by the crank pulley. After a lot of searching around, I found it to be coming from the head oil filter socket. It's behind one of the cam pulleys and looks like a 12mm allen key head. Veero 1 Posted April 22, 2006 Ah right, might not be a disaster then, thanks Wurzel. I will pop the covers off today and have a nosey round Veero
Veero 1 Posted April 22, 2006 Weird, the belt seems absolutely fine, there's no obvious place where the oil is coming from, I've left the covers off and when I've installed my new radiator tomorrow I willgive it a test run minus cambelt covers to see if I can spt the culprit. Fortunately it seems remarkably clean and oil free apart from one run down the inside edge of the front cambelt cover but I can't get a good angle to view it properly... I've given up for the night will start a fresh tomorrow. Veero

Wurzel 16 Posted April 23, 2006 My leak was very difficult to spot, especially with the clean oil. Also the engine needed a fair few revs so that the pressure built up. The only other places that oil can com from on that side are the rocker cover to head seal, cam seal and of course the crank seal. I know that there have been a few issues with rocker covers and the seals before. Usually though, that is due to overtightening the cover bolts.
