Leaking Boot!

Recommended Posts

Leon C

Every time it rains the drivers side back corner (under the wash reservoir) of the boot fills with water. Its gotten to the stage where the paint is starting to bubble and rust underneath. :)

I siliconed around the small tailgate panel gromit and checked the light/seal for leaking but still no joy!

Anyone got any ideas!?

Just checked ...It seems to be ok, doesn't feel wet anywhere along the inside of the window.

Can you get seals anywhere other than peugeot,is it worth replacing the boot seal while we're at it?

Mine leaks on the same side same place, I will be replacing the tailgate to body seal and making sure the tailgate fits tight. Also my seal round the glass looked fine but has actually split! you couldn't tell until you picked at it in the bottom corner. :D Maybe worth another look?

The glass seal going is fairly common. The seal can be had from peugeot, but its tough to replace apparently, due to the glass being bonded in. Mine leaks but isn't obviously wet on the inside - it seems to run down inside the door.

Also the holes for the boot lock, window wiper, washer jet, rear lights and external 'corrogated' trim hole can leak. These can all be cleaned and siliconed up though.

The rear washer bottle (if fitted) can leak and there can be holes in the boot floor that can leak if some of the plugs/catches have be pulled out.

Theres the actual hatch seal obviously and i've also heard that its possible for the sunroof to leak and for the water to run back onto the hatch.

The best thing is to remove the carpet and inside hatch trim and sit in the boot while a mate puts a hose on the car. Hopefully you'll find your leak.

From experience, it's most likely to be where the black plactic trim meets the tailgate. Usually running some silicon all the way along the top solves the leaks.

Thats one way of doing it, but there only is one small hole that a tab on the trim goes though (and the bootlock hole too.)

IMO you'd be better to seal it up at these direct entry points, as the external plastic trim isn't sealed as standard anyway. You can do the holes from the inside.

i recently topped up my rear washer bottle to the top, now that its full its eaking from the filler bit, should there be a rubber seal of some sort that goes on the cap on the filler neck?

Also check the plastic plugs that hold the carpet to the floor, they sometimes pop out and water can get in there as well.
