What Hoses For Bigger Brakes?

Recommended Posts

Guest smokinslim

I'm not 100% that it's been done before with base model hubs but i'm planning on upgrading to either 307 hdi/2.0 16v or 206 gti 180 front brakes. If it's not poss i'll have to get me some 1.9 hubs.

What hoses will i need to connect them up though? I know that 1.6 rear hoses have a different size union to the ones on mine, as for the front and those on other models i haven't a clue at the moment.

Also if i end up having to get 1.9 hubs will the two ball joints that fit into each hub on my base model setup fit the new hubs? Changing the track rod ends isn't much trouble (and the tracking is being done next week anyway) but i'm not planning just yet (and can't afford as well) to change the subframe etc.

Any help with this would be much appreciated thanx.

Std. 205 front hoses should be OK.

If you go to 1.9 hubs you will need driveshafts to match.

some (me included) find the standard hoses too short, i had a custom length set of braided hoses made up with an inch extra over the stock front hoses.

Yeah the standard length hoses are quite tight, tihnk Ill get some longer ones for piece of mind soon.

How much were the custom braided ones?

Mine just failed on the brake hoses "as they twist on full lock"...even though they are steel braided......

Gonna have to try and order some custome ones today.

base model hubs will work as they're the correct offset. It's the 1.6 gti ones that are odd.

Nice one peeps thanx. If i can find some brakes at a decent price should be all good then.

So i shouldn't have any problems with mismatching hose unions then? Just don't wanna take everything apart then find that bits don't fit. My local pug shop is a 2hr round trip on foot lol
