Different Brake Lines For 1.6/1.9?

Recommended Posts

Hi chaps,

Is there any difference between the two braided hose kits that you can buy? I have a 1.6 with a 1.9 engine, 1.6 gearbox and hubs, so I probably need the 1.6 kit, but I was wondering what the difference is?

Thanks

Iain

if you have rear drums you need the 1.6 kit, if you have rear calipers you need the 1.9 kit

Excellent, thankyou for your quick reply. I think I have discs at the rear

a 1.9 kit can be used for both . You'll just have 2 hoses left that are used for the 1.9 calipers

It can & it can't, the hoses that go around the beam are different.

The 1.6 has one male & one female union around the beam where the 1.9 has two females.

Wot he said /\

The N/S flexi hose on the 1.6 has a male end that connects to the t piece on the brake lines, and a female end that connects to the brake line running back along the swing arm to the drum (or the caliper if you have swapped to a 1.9 beam).

As an original 1.9 does not have the T piece that the 1.6 has, both the flexi lines have all female ends.

So to summise, you can use a 1.9 kit but will have two left over lines and one that won't fit. So ideally you need to contact someone like Goodrich and get a customised kit made up.

Total ballache and something I'll have to do in future.

You could use the 1.9 kit on the 1.6, you would just need a double ended male fitting to connect to the t piece that is on the near side rear on a 1.6.

As someone else pointed out you would also be left with 2 calliper hoses you don't need.
