Aero Style Bonnet Catches / Pins

Recommended Posts

Guest birdii

Hi,

I'm trying to do a quick safety fix on my bonnet before setting out for Combe on Saturday, as usual i have left it a little late!

Anyway the bonnet is really worrying me because at speed it wobbles a heck of a lot so i really want a fix before Combe. The best i can do is fit bonnet pins for now which i'm not too keen on the look of on my standard looking car. The plan then is to buy some aero catches from the Merlin motorsport shop while i'm at combe and then swap them over when i get back home.

The problem is that without having the aero catches now i can't work out the best position to fit them so hence i don't know where to put the quick fix ones.

Could anyone using aero catches with a standard bonnet please post me a pick of where you put the pins. Its a bit tricky to get it in the right place because the bonnet strengthener runs just where the catches need to be!

Many thanks in advance for help!!

Try a search, I know theres at least a couple of threads from people that have fitted them before, with pics.

Yeah done a search already but unfortunately i can't find pic's. Biff started a thread with pic's of his but they no longer display when loaded. Jon also has pic's of his but that is a smooth carbon fibre bonnet so it doesn't really answer the querry.

I assume you just want a pair of catches on the front of the bonnet? TO be honest you need to put them where it's easy to fit the PIN, not necessarily the where it suits the underside of the bonnet.

If you check out the Aero Catch website you can get the relevant dimensions for wha tyou will need to cut out, so you can then figure out where to put them: http://www.aerocatch.com/automotive-home.html

You can reference my guide here for where is a good place to locate the pins: http://www.mdracing.co.uk/howto1.asp

If you want any other advise just drop me a PM :)
