GLPoomobile 958 Posted April 19, 2006 I have a pair of standard 1.9 shocks with Eibach springs left over from my old 205. Last night I took the springs and top mounts off so I could refurbish the top mounts plates and fit new bearings and bushes. I had intended on fitting it all back on to my 1.6 as I can't afford new shocks. I've never played with shocks before so I don't know if they are alright or completely knackered. I can compress the shock reasonably easily, but with some resistance, and then extend it again which takes about twice as much effort. In theory this seems like normal behaviour to me but I'm also thinking that the shock should actually extend under it's own effort after being compressed. Which is it? Guest smokinslim Posted April 19, 2006 The spring causes extension as it expands, the shock slows it down to stop it bouncing. If the shock moves freely with little resistance or has seized then its had it.

Which is it? yes that is normal. unless the damper is gas assisted it will not return after bump.
