Loss Of Power

Recommended Posts

I set of to work today, and quickly relise the car is not running right. When I press the accelerator it does not accelerate properly but I get a slight banging sound from the exhaust. There was really no power at all, then it starts to clear its self and suddenly it fixes itself, and I almost launch into the car infront as I had my foot on the floor in 2nd hardly accelerating..

just one of those things I think to myself hoping that is the last of it.

but when I get back into my car after work, it is broken again, and does not fix itself this time

It sounds a bit like a motor bike on full throttle, although with your head just under the bonnet it does not sound too strange, only when listening to the exhaust. I have tested there is a spark on each plug, fidled with every connector and hose but it is not fixing it. I am thinking something electrical the way it fixed itself before. Ignition amplifer? could be a misfire?

I am going to check rotor arm and cap next, any other ideas?

its confusing the way it fixed itself all of a sudden, and now its back, something cant have just completly broken.

on my way to work today, it was the same as before, then fixed itself again about the same distance from my house as yesterday...

so i am thinking something temperature related.. although it did not fix itself on the way home yesterday.

Mine has done a similar thing a couple of times, with bangs from the exhaust. I was told it could be the distributor on its way out?

Mine did exactly the same thing a few months back, a new dist cap and rotor arm solved all the problems.

yeah sounds like a damp/failing ignition system.

one or more of the following should be a step in the right direction: new dizzy cap/rotor arm, leads, plugs, ignition amp and coil
