Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Has anybody done a head gasket on a 1.7td vauxhall astra van? it's on an s plate.

All i need to know is if there are any hidden complications and where the timing marks are. oh and also the tourques for the head?

bit of a long shot but i'm sure somebody has a haynes lying about somewhere

Cheers guys,

Simon

stage 1 - its 40 Nm

stage 2 - angle-tighten further 60 to 75 degrees

stage 3 - angle-tighten further 60 to 75 degrees

in order

7 3 2 6 10

8 4 1 5 9

had a look in haynes but doesnt mention anything about isuzu so assuming its a 8v and it doesnt have isuzu stamped on the engine or anything.

hope that helps

dave

oh and the haynes manual covers 1995 to 1999 (N to S)

"rotate the crankshaft untill the notch on the crankshaft pulley rim is aligned with the pointer on the base of the oil pump cover"

I havent done one on a TD afaik, but i recently done a 97 non turbo,im guessing the blocks are pretty similar if not the same.

The bottom pulley was not marked. Need to remove flywheel inspection plate and line up timing mark on flywheel.

Top pulley was not marked. Need a DTI gauge to do this by the book.

Diesel pump is marked .

But, if its working and running fine now,id just make my own marks. I normally do anyway :o Unless the marks are clearly visable at least.

Ill do my best to remember and check the autodata book at work tommorrow. But theres a good chance ill forget :D

Ive got a S plate 1.7 GM turbo diesel and ive done the same as above.

Ive not done a headgasket but ive just had to take the diesel pump off. The pump is dowled and the bottom crank pulley is marked with a option to peg the flywheel with a 8mm dowel. The top cam pulley is set by a dti gauge so dont undo the cam bolt and make your own timing marks for it and all should be good.

Btw dont suppose you have a spare diesel pump knocking about :)

I'm fairly certain theres a pointed arrow on the carnk pulley that points to a rib on the timing case.
