Think Ive Worked Out My Problem Just Need Checking

Recommended Posts

Guest Quakes

Right since buying my gti it hasnt been running right and after various posts i was still none the wiser. but i think ive found the problem and wanted to know if it would be causing the symptons.

the thing ive found is its a 1.9 engine but the injectors are blue the ecu serial number is 0 280 000 340

which according to http://www.atpelectronics.co.uk/Catalogue/peugeot.htm is a 1.6 ecu and my AFM is 0 280 202 056 which again says 1.6 so the fix would be to replace those parts but just before i spend out can anyone tell me how many of the problems it will fix.

The problems at the moment.

1. Car feels less powerfull then it should be

2. If i connect the TPS i only have half accelorator any more and its a constent burring misfire

3. The car is flooded when i come to it in the morning i have to sit there turning the engine over for a minuite without touching the throttle for it to start and when it does i have to hold the accelorator down for a minuite before i can drive it

4. Stinks of petrol when i put my foot down and oil smells a bit like petrol

5. a full tank is lucky to give me 120 miles which i think is about 12mpg. cardiff to london cost me £120

6. Misfires from 4500 through to 5700

7. limits at 5700 ( well it feels like its hitting the limiter but i think it goes further i just dont wanna try )

8. Engine cuts out on conering if the corners quite sharp (my last 205 didnt have this problem )

9. A LOT of black/grey smoke when i put my foot down

ive searched the forum and in the posts all the problems i have seem to relate to parts ive changed so im ruleing them out. and the guy whos been trying to tune it hasnt got a clue whats going on either.

Replaced Rotar Arm, Dizzy Cap, Ignition Coil, Plugs and leads.

I have an air leak on the inlet manifold was told by the mechanic that its because i used an aftermarket inlet gasket and apparently there useless.

Im only asking as i want to devote next weekend to getting my car sorted and wandered if im missing anything or should change any additional parts.

Cheers for reading Jono

The incorrect ECU and AFR is going to mess up your fueling and very likely to cause most of the problem you describe. The exception being the cutting out which sounds more like an electrical issue (battery cables loose etc).

I f you can get to porthcawl you can try my AFM and ECU off my GTi (bare in mind it's a catalyst) to see if it cures your problems. You should also be able to pick up some on ebay cheap enough and it doesn't hurt to have a spare.

If fact there are both parts ending within 12 hours today

ecu: ECU

& AFM:

AFM

The air leak should make your air/fuel mixture leaner when all your other problems seem to be Rich air/fuel mixture.

The classic faulty ECU temp sensor could also be contributing to this.
