Plastic Speedo Drive.

I have searched briefly and can't find the answer. What is involved in changing the plastic speedo drive in the g/box? And what sort of time will it take? Cheers.

If you are changing both gears, you will need to pop out the drivers side driveshaft. Then 2 bolts than hold the housing and pull it out. Maybe need some new rubber o-rings.

Time wise I wouldn't want to say, depends on how quick or slow you are. If you haven't removed the drivers side driveshaft you may want to allow yourself some extra time, I would of thought working at a quick pace you should be able to get in done in an hour or so...

I don't know if I need to remove both gears or not really. The problem I'm having is that I have put an MI16 box on a 1.9 and now the speedo is over reading, so following a search it appears to be down to a plastic gear in the box but I couldn't find much more info than that so I'm still a bit vague.

I never found an answer as to whether I should change the gears or not.

They are quite easy to get to though. If you only need to change the smaller one on the end of the cable then undo the single bolt and pull out the plastic part.

If you need to change the bigger one then you have to take the end cover off the diff.

Nice one. I'll try changing the smaller one first and see what happens. Thanks.

Change the small one so that you have one with 17teeth on it. It's easy to change. As Ryan said you just undo the 11mm headed bolt that's above the o/side driveshaft and pull/jiggle the plastic bit that the speedo cable goes into upwards and the gear will come out with it -if it doesn't you can pull it out with your fingers. There's no need to drain the gear oil.

Where abouts in Shropshire are you anyway Jon??
